FAQs

What is thermal drone pet search and how does it work?
What Types of pets can you help locate?
How quickly should I contact you after my pet goes missing?
We can search for any warm-blooded pet including dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, and other small to medium-sized animals. The thermal signature detection works best for animals weighing over 5 pounds, though smaller pets may also be detectable under optimal conditions.
Contact us as soon as possible, ideally within the first 24-48 hours. The sooner we begin the search, the higher the likelihood of success, as pets tend to stay closer to home initially before potentially traveling further distances.
Our thermal drone service uses advanced infrared cameras mounted on unmanned aerial vehicles to detect heat signatures from missing pets. The thermal imaging technology can identify the body heat of animals even in challenging conditions like dense vegetation, darkness, or adverse weather.
Are there weather conditions that prevent drone operations?
What does your service cost?
Yes, we cannot operate drones safely in high winds (over 30 mph) and heavy rain. These conditions not only pose safety risks but also significantly reduce the effectiveness of thermal imaging. However, our drones are IP55 rated and can be flown in moderate rain, snow, and fog.
PetRecon is a contribution-supported service and is 100% free. There’s no fee for a search, but contributions help us keep drones in the sky and pets coming home.
PetRecon is a community-driven thermal drone service dedicated to finding lost pets using advanced aerial imaging. Operated by an FAA licensed and insured professional, all searches are provided free of charge. Contributions help sustain equipment and mission readiness.
